Brazil a top investment destination for 2012

Brazil will be one of the world's top destinations for foreign investment in 2012, according to new information from one of the country's top research institutes.
The report from the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA) states that the International Perception of Brazil Monitor study - which measures Brazil's prospects for foreign investment - rose from 35 points in May to 43 points in August.
The study sought the opinions of investment experts from across the world, and found that 70 per cent of them considered Brazil to be among the top five destinations for people and businesses to invest their money. This figure was up from 56 per cent in May.
IPEA expert, Andre Pinelli Alves, said that the figures represented one of the best outlooks since the mid-1990s, when Brazil rose to be the fifth most popular place for international investment, following the privatisation of several state-owned businesses.
Alves did warn, however, that the survey had been carried out prior to the cutting of the annual basic interest rate by the Monetary Policy Committee, to 12 per cent. He said that this could well lead to certain diminishing of optimism.
